No i don't think he forgot about his old teammates but this interview was taken in a time when chelsea fans didn't like him very much (they don't like him too much right now either, but back then he was really disliked). Maybe he thought the chelsea fans would hate him even more if he said gerrard was the best midfielder.

34. He should go back and listen to his own advice about being a world class striker. I feel that he's just frustrated playing now a days and it severely impedes his performance. It makes me sad to see.
